10th Annual LGBT Night with the Giants!
Celebrate the Bay Area’s rich LGBT culture at the Giants annual LGBT Night! Watch the Giants take on the Arizona Diamondbacks with partial proceeds from each special event ticket donated to non-profits in the LGBT community. Don’t miss out on the fun!
When: Tuesday, May 29th – Game at 7:15 pm – RSVP for meeting time and exact location.
Cost: Tickets are free to the Openhouse community, but seats are limited. Preference will be given to those who have not recently attended OH outings.

Phantoms of Asia – Asian Art Museum
This May, the Asian Art Museum debuts Phantoms of Asia: Contemporary Awakens the Past, an ambitious exhibition exploring the complex, diverse, cross-cultural perspectives of Asian cosmology and spirituality through a compelling interplay of 140 works of the past and present.
When: Thursday, May 31st at 3:00 pm – 200 Larkin St, Museum Lobby
Cost: Openhouse has received a limited number of tickets so you must RSVP to attend this free event. Those who have not attended OH outings are especially encouraged to call 415-296-8995 X16!

Saturday, February 4th

Mark your calendars for… “Professor Ming’s Mansion” – A Bilingual Production….
Join us at Lunar New Year for dramatic storytelling set in ancient China. This play follows the life of a physician whose compassion and generosity to the poor inspire all around him. Presented in English and Cantonese, this show if filled with song, traditional Chinese dance, and Kung Fu martial arts!
When: Saturday, February 4th @ 1:30PM
Where: Buddha’s Universal Church, 720 Washington St @ Kearny
Cost: $10 for the play and, if there’s enough interest, we’ll meet earlier for lunch in Chinatown.

Sunday, February 5th

Join the LGBT Senior community and Openhouse staff for the
UC Berkeley Women’s Gymnastics Competition: UC Berkeley Vs. UC Davis
When: 10:45AM, Sunday, February 5th
Where: Meet Openhouse Staff at 870 Market Street, (Flood Building entrance near Market and Powell)
We will leave at 11:00AM sharp. From here we will take BART directly to our coffee break at “Tully‟s” in downtown Berkeley, and then walk to the Haas Pavilion. Please bring money for transportation and drinks. This outing is non-strenuous but please note we will navigate steps and walk six blocks. Rain will cancel this event, so hope for sun and join us! Saturday, February 11th

Join us Saturday, February 11th at 3PM for a special Openhouse Community Tour of the 30th St. Senior Center with Activities Director Ana Smith. This is your chance to see the center‟s renowned hillside garden, spacious exercise rooms, space for fiber arts and crafts, and much more. Join other LGBT seniors and take advantage of this dynamic community asset. 30th St. or bust!

Wednesday, February 29th

Oakland Museum Outing
Join Openhouse on a trip to the Oakland Museum of California (OMCA). OMCA brings together art, history and natural science under one roof to tell the extraordinary stories of California and its people. Some examples include: a
premier collection of Bay Area figurative paintings; a Dorothy Lange Archive—showcasing the intimate depression-era photos of the Berkeley photographer; and a ceramics collection of over 800 objects. Special exhibitions include the new Gallery of California Art, Question Bridge: Black Males— an innovative video installation that includes interviews with 150 black men in eleven cities.
Community members will depart first from the Curry Senior Center at 10:30AM on Wednesday, February 29th, with another pickup at the main branch library; Call for time and location. We will take a chartered bus to the museum where we will enjoy the sites as well as dine at the “Blue Oak Café,” the museums on-site café featuring fresh California cuisine. In an effort to create gender balance, we especially encourage women to join us and will leave a designated number of seats for women-identified community members. This trip is free — paid for by Openhouse, and space is very limited, and you must RSVP to attend: 415-296-8995.

St. Patrick’s Day Party

When: Friday, March 16th – 1:30 pm – Show starts promptly so don’t be late!

What: Join Openhouse, Bread & Roses and The Sequoias for a St. Patrick’s Day Party Featuring The Gas Men
“The Gas Men” play Irish Traditional music (jigs, reels, hornpipes, polkas) and the singers in the band perform a wide variety of songs. From Alaska to Argentina, the band have enjoyed playing music and entertaining audiences since the early nineties.
Thanks to Bread & Roses and our friends at the Sequoias retirement community, we will be graced with key members of the Gas Men, eager to play their signature Irish tunes for the Openhouse community. According to music critic Paul Liberatore, “there’s been a huge upsurge of Celtic music all over the globe.” Come be a part of it!
Potluck: If you can, please bring something to eat or drink. Or, just bring yourself!

Howard Grayson – LGBT Elder Life Conference

This is your chance to participate in organizing LGBT seniors into a powerful political voice…or, just come for the laughs!
Come learn about your legal protections, LGBT elder services, and more! This conference is sponsored by the Harvey Milk Democratic Club, On Lok 30th St. Senior Center, Openhouse, Outlook Theater Project, the National Center for Lesbian Rights, The Gray Panthers, The SF LGBT Community Center, Asian Pacific Island Queer Women and Transgender Community, The California Alliance for Retired Americans, and the Department of Aging and Adult Services.

Thursday, April 26th

Struggle, Then and Now: Inter-generational Voices on the Bay Area Lesbian Movement
What: Connect with Openhouse, Aunt Lute Books, and other lesbian and transgender women 60+ for an evening of readings and discussion with Judy Grahn and other writers from across the Bay Area. Here, women will reflect on the impact of the Bay Area lesbian movement from the 1960’s and 70’s to the present. Judy Grahn is an internationally recognized poet, writer, and social theorist who has won numerous awards for her work including the American Book Award. She is also an incredible performer and her live presence is not-to-be-missed!

Openhouse has secured a bus with the well-regarded SilverRide. We will depart from the San Francisco LGBT Center at 4PM for our dinner date at the renowned Café Valparaiso. Here we will enjoy dining on your choice of five entrée options (below). Thanks to SilverRide and Café Valparaiso we are able to offer transportation and dinner for the prix fixe rate of only $20 total for each person. This includes an entrée and flan dessert (beverages extra; Bring money for sangria if you like it!). After dinner we will walk literally across the room and through the doors into La Peña Cultural Center for the main event.

Boneless chicken thigh sautéed in coconut milk, tomatoes, onion, bell peppers, and white wine. Served with rice and black beans.

LOMO SALTADO
Spicy Peruvian dish of Tri-tip sautéed in red wine, onions, tomatoes, and jalapeño peppers, tossed with fried potatoes. Served with rice.

PASTEL DE CHOCLO
A hearty Chilean casserole of beef, olives, raisins, hard-boiled egg, chicken, and spices, topped with creamy corn. Served with tomato slices.

ZUCCHINI RELLENO
Zucchini stuffed with spinach, mushrooms, roasted poblano peppers, topped with red sauce and cheese. Served with rice and black beans.
