We have multiple needs for volunteers from facilitating discussion and support groups, coordinating events, serving lunches, or administrative tasks such as data entry, capturing demographic data, and more – our volunteers are a big part of our Openhouse community and their efforts make a big impact! Are you interested in helping to keep LGBTQ seniors in our community-engaged, and thriving in the city and community they helped to create? Get involved in the Openhouse Friendly Visitor program!
Openhouse works to center the voices and lived experiences of LGBTQ elders by providing opportunities to make social connections and build community. Through the Openhouse Friendly Visitor program, LGBTQ seniors are matched with queer-and trans-identified folks and allies of different ages to receive ongoing social and emotional support such as taking walks, sharing stories, or just connecting about shared interests. These activities can make a big difference in the lives of LGBTQ seniors seeking stronger community connections.
Being an Openhouse Community Member means building community across generations. Friendly visitors of all ages are interested in cultivating deep and enriching friendships with LGBTQ seniors. These friendships can take shape in many forms- going on walks, museum visits, sharing stories over coffee, or simply connecting over shared interests! Volunteers help provide companionship, emotional support, and some practical assistance to foster connections to our community.
